What Is Ledger.com/Start®?

Ledger.com/Start® is the official setup portal provided by Ledger®, the industry leader in hardware wallet technology. It provides verified downloads, trusted setup instructions, and security guidance to ensure your Ledger device is configured correctly and safely.

From this portal, you’ll be guided through:

Downloading Ledger Live® (desktop or mobile)
Initializing your Ledger Nano S, Nano S Plus, or Nano X
Creating or restoring a wallet
Backing up your recovery phrase
Installing apps and adding crypto accounts

Avoid third-party websites and always go to https://www.ledger.com/start to reduce the risk of phishing or fraud.

Step 1: Unbox and Inspect Your Ledger Device

Once you've received your Ledger Nano device, make sure:

The box is sealed and untampered
The device is physically undamaged
You purchased directly from Ledger or an authorized reseller

Ledger devices never come with pre-written recovery phrases. If yours does, it is unsafe to use.

Step 2: Download and Install Ledger Live®

Navigate to Ledger.com/Start and download the official Ledger Live® app for your operating system:

Linux
iOS & Android (mobile version)

Ledger Live is your command center for managing your crypto assets, performing transactions, installing apps, and updating firmware. Never download Ledger Live from app stores or third-party links—always use the official site.

Step 3: Set Up Your Device

Open Ledger Live and follow the guided setup process:

➤ Create a New Wallet (Recommended for New Users)

Choose "Set up a new device"
Select your device model (Nano S, Nano S Plus, or Nano X)
Power on your device and choose "Set up as new"
Write down your 24-word recovery phrase on the provided sheet
Confirm your recovery phrase on the device
Set your PIN code

Important: Your 24-word recovery phrase is the only way to recover your wallet. Do not share it or store it digitally.

➤ Restore a Wallet (If You Already Have One)

Choose “Restore from recovery phrase”
Enter your 24-word recovery phrase carefully on the device
Set a new PIN
Resume access to your accounts via Ledger Live

Step 4: Install Apps and Add Accounts

Once your device is set up:

Open Ledger Live
Go to “My Ledger” (connect your device and allow access)
Install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum)
Go to “Accounts” > “Add Account” and select the corresponding app

Now you can send, receive, and manage supported cryptocurrencies safely using your Ledger device to approve every transaction.

Step 6: Stay Secure and Updated

Keep your recovery phrase written down and stored in a safe location
Never share your 24 words—not even with Ledger support
Always use the official Ledger Live app and check for firmware updates
Use the genuine check feature in Ledger Live to confirm your device is legitimate
Enable password lock and optionally use a passphrase wallet
